For ten (10) years, the Charleston Redevelopment Corporation (“CRC”) has been carrying out and financing affordable housing projects throughout Charleston County. The CRC has assisted over One Hundred (100) households in the last five years. In addition, the organization currently has One Hundred Forty Three (143) units under construction, in permitting, or actively in pre-development across five (5) projects.

The CRC operates the Palmetto Community Land Trust (“PCLT”). Through the PCLT, Eighty-Four (84) units of deeply affordable apartments have been preserved through the acquisition of two (2) expiring Low Income Housing Tax Credit apartment complexes and thirteen (13) townhouse and single-family homes sold and closed in 2024 and 2025.

In June 2025, the CRC received its approval from the U.S. Department of Treasury as a CDFI (Certified Development Financial Institution). With its CDFI status, the CRC seeks to build on its established history of successfully developing and preserving affordable housing projects throughout Charleston County, both independently and through Public Private Partnerships. As an affordable housing developer, the CRC will continue its  work in for-sale and rental housing, land trust development, housing preservation financing, and policy-driven interventions to mitigate displacement.
